Dental Cleanings

Everyone over the age of four should visit the dentist for dental cleanings twice per year. At Broadway Dental, we have four specially-trained hygienists on staff to ensure convenient scheduling of regular appointments for all of our patients. Your hygienist will begin your cleaning by exploring the surface of your teeth to determine if you have cavities and examine the quality of existing fillings.

The hygienist will then inspect your gums for periodontal disease, the leading cause of tooth loss for American adults. The hygienists are specially trained to detect, deter, and treat gum disease. We prefer to help you maintain optimal oral health, never to have to worry about gum disease.

Next, your hygienist will carefully clean your teeth with various tools to remove any hard mineral buildup (tartar) from your teeth. Then, your teeth will be flossed and polished. If your hygienist finds tooth decay or gum disease, they will talk with you about your brushing, flossing, and changes that will benefit you.

In some cases, the dentist will be consulted and may recommend further treatment. If your teeth and gums appear to be healthy, your hygienist will probably recommend that you continue your brushing and flossing as usual. However, if you develop problems, we’re here to help.

DENTAL CLEANINGS – APPOINTMENT SUMMARY

  • Tartar Removal — Calculus, or tartar, is a hardened plaque attached to the tooth surface. A dental hygienist will remove calculus from above and below the gum line.
  • Plaque Removal — Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on your teeth. It’s a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. If not periodically removed, the bacteria produce toxins that infect and inflame the gums, the warning signs of periodontal disease.
  • Teeth Polishing — Polishing removes stains and plaque that are not removed during brushing and scaling.
  • Home Care Instructions — You’ll leave each dental hygiene visit with clear, easy-to-follow instructions on how to properly care for your teeth and continue to keep your winning smile! We might have a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, or lip gloss for you as a parting gift!

A professional dental cleaning can ensure that you keep your smile bright, white, and healthy for years to come. To schedule a professional dental cleaning with one of our experienced dental hygienists here at Broadway Dental, please contact us today.
